Cooking with Anita Marcela: Layer Fruit Salad
Fruit salads can be served as a dessert or snack. I like to prepare them in single and small portions to make them more beautiful. I also want to make them in a glass to make them look different than the traditional fruit salads. And to complete the look of a layer fruit salad for a celebration of children, put them in toppers that match the party theme so the children will take more attention.
The variety of layer fruit salad is infinite. You can use any combination of fruits, and it will always be delicious. I like to use sweet and sour fruits to balance the flavors, and put a little bit of orange or passionfruit juice and add some mint or spearmint leaves to decorate.
Useful tips when making fruit salads for your kids' party
- Use the fruits that are available in the current season, so you will have a fresher salad
- Avoid brown or dark fruits, adding some lemon juice
- When you have to mix the fruits in advance, choose those that have a hard and crunchy texture, those will keep freshers and better in the salad
Place the hardest ones down (like apples, coconuts, oranges, pineapples, and grapes) and the softer ones up (peaches, cantaloupe, strawberries, blueberries, ripe mangos, bananas, papaya, and raspberries) - Cut the fruits into small and same size pieces, thus unifying the fruit salad
